Our morning coffee is a beloved ritual – whether it’s starting our day out right, or bringing us together with friends. Each year the production of coffee generates 1.7 million tonnes of waste globally. In Australia alone, we throw away 1 billion disposable coffee cups! So… how do coffee drinkers effortlessly eliminate takeaway cups, whilst drastically reducing the amount of waste produced by the coffee industry? The solution is HuskeeCup, a sophisticated coffee cup made from recycled coffee bean husk, along with the free global cup exchange system, HuskeeSwap. With both of these combined, the way we drink coffee is changing – for good.
Tell us three unique things about your business
We started as a kickstarter campaign in mid-2017 and now have 15 employees (and growing!) based in Sydney, Melbourne and London. Our award-winning cups are made from an organic waste product – coffee husk (made from the milling stage of coffee production) to solve another waste problem; single use takeaway coffee cups! Not only are we are a reusable coffee cup but we have a global cup exchange system HuskeeSwap, swapping around the world in 283 sites!
What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?
We will be showcasing our range of beautiful cups, lids and saucers (as well as sharing our love for coffee!). There will also be information of where you can HuskeeSwap in the local area.
Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?
As coffee lovers, we became aware about the amount of waste coffee production creates. We also knew about the astounding amount of waste from takeaway coffee cups. Together with some great minds and great design, we found a solution to solve both issues – one person’s (coffee) waste became our Huskee treasure!
