We honour craftsmanship and, by collaborating with artisans in Madagascar and Mauritius, we help them create sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. We strive to make unique and eco-friendly products. There is something powerful that has been created by hand and we work closely with two small ateliers on the Islands whose various skills of dyeing, weaving and embroidery come together harmoniously. I created the business with the vision to fill homes with pieces that are not mass produced and don’t come at the expense of the planet.
Meticulously handcrafted fashion accessories and woven ware, including cushions, bags and scarves, all made from natural material.
At home in Mauritius, my mother would always go to her favourite local craft person, the metalwork, the waiver, the dressmaker, when she needed something personal made or to give new life to our furnitures. I love that in the Mascarene Islands you can still find small local handiwork and I wish these skills are never lost, as they are part of our stories. Malagasy people have a lot of abilities, potential and are not known to the world. I created the business with the intention to showcase their talent. That is how the name Little Known Makers was born.Back Next
