The most important ingredient in our chai is real life conversation. Miks Chai is a social enterprise that enriches lives through story-telling.
What problem is your business solving?
We believe business can make a positive difference in the world. Everything that Miks Chai is, and does, enriches your life. Miks Chai takes no shortcuts in doing good and feeling good. We are dedicated to encourage real life stories to be shared and to offer people a safe place to build necessary support systems for wellbeing. A good cuppa slows down your moment and allows you to be present. Not to mention it’s accessible and portable!
Tell us three unique things about your business
1. The founder, Mikhara (aka Miks), began this enterprise finding support from sharing stories over chai, during difficult times coming out as a queer woman of colour. Now she is dedicated to giving others a voice.
2. We put our money where our mouth is, which is why we also give half of our profits to orgs focussed on suicide prevention. It’s appalling that the biggest killer under the age of 40 is suicide.
3. All of our packaging is 100% compostable, plus ingredients are organic and all sourced from ethical producers. Nothing artificial, purely nutritious.

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?
“I believe stories save lives, as it was sharing my story over a cup of my Aaji’s [grandmother’s] chai that saved mine. As a queer woman of colour, I was especially inspired to share stories of communities that remain least represented so I built a tiny home on the back of a box trailer, bought a ute, quit my corporate job and travelled 60,000 KM around Australia to work with rural youth.” Founder of Miks Chai, Mikhara Ramsing (aka Miks) has been nominated as the Young Australian of the Year QLD 2019, AFR Top 100 Women of Influence and was awarded a Westpac Social Change Fellowship for her social enterprises focused on building a more inclusive Australia.
