We thought we were doing the right thing by going vegan, but then we learnt about the problem of monoculture in soy and almond production. We thought going organic was better for the environment, but then we learnt about the carbon footprint of compost.
Choosing how to eat sustainably can be a minefield, but whatever your dietary preference, the fact is that the consumer has the power. By choosing to fill our baskets and bodies with food produced by brands who source ingredients and produce food ethically and sustainably, we’re encouraging more businesses to act with compassion and conscience.
In the words of one of our vendors (the very inspiring Australian Organic Food Co): “What you eat can change the world”. Alongside this organic food and farming company, The Conscious Space will play host to a stall stocked with delicious, nutrient-dense superfood bars, and a bar serving organic, biodynamic and preservative free wine. We’re not here to tell you how to eat, but we can tell you to arrive hungry.

The Daily Bar – Byron based snack brand The Daily Bar takes an entirely holistic approach to sustainability. Raw, grain free, low-sugar, high-protein, soy-free, dairy-free, high-fibre, that’s all a given, but the nutrient-dense wholefood bars aren’t just made with all natural, organic ingredients, they’re produced in a way that preserves their nutritional benefit. Their packaging isn’t just incredibly aesthetically pleasing, it’s entirely compostable, made from recycled card and printed with vegetable inks. Helpfully, the bars also happen to be completely delicious.
The Organic Wine Cellar – The organic wine cellar brings organic, natural, biodynamic wine to your doorstep. Australia’s first natural, organic wine club, the Sydney-based company promises to beat retail price, and will save you scanning the shelves. The Organic Wine Cellar will be serving wine by the glass at The Conscious Space, so you can sip while you shop or just set up at the wine bar for the afternoon… we think we’ll try both.
Australian Organic Food Co – Through their range of 100% organic, 100% Australian soups, juices, purees and passata’s, this nation-wide organic food company is changing the way Australia eats. Australian Organic Food Co uses sustainable, organic farming methods to produce healthy natural food and preserve our environment. Since its origins as the one-man passion project of founder Adrian Cester, the company has been responsible for the nurturing of over one thousand cricket ovals of organic farmland, the harvesting of over five thousand kilograms of organic vegetables and the use of over three hundred kilograms of produce which would otherwise have been wasted.
Freedom Foods – Since 1990, Freedom Foods has been leading the ‘free from’ movement in Australia: creating healthy, allergen friendly foods at accessible prices. Freedom Foods now has a line of over 150 products – from Messy Monkey’s snack packs which fill lunch boxes Australia over, to prebiotic snack bars.
Hill St Wholefoods – This New Zealand based brand is putting the ease into healthy baking. The wholefoods baking kits are vegan, refined sugar free, dairy free and gluten free: and helpfully packaged ready to stir up and pop in the oven.
