Our Office Does: The Social Outfit

Sydney based social enterprise The Social Outfit was created with the intention of empowering the city’s female refugee community through rewarding, supportive employment, but this forward-thinking brand does so much more. From their Newtown workroom, the team behind The Social Outfit create striking, statement designs using a minimal waste production system, which to date has saved 7.5 tonnes of fabric from landfill (and made some very groovy garments in the process).

As part of our “Our Office Does” series, we asked The Social Outfit’s CEO, the incredible Camilla Schippa, to provide a little insight into what makes working at The Social Outfit rewarding for all involved. Here’s what she told us…

“At The Social Outfit we do not even have an office! The team works collectively in our store and workroom. We all come together with our shared goal to empower women aiming to make Australia a more welcoming place. Our shared purpose makes us feel united and inspired. We overcome language barriers through creativity and collaboration. We share our food from different continents daily in our kitchen. This is why, we are all taking part in Wear the Change, our yearly challenge running during Refugee Week to wear 1 garment 5 ways over 5 days and raise awareness of ethical fashion and raise funds to continue to empower refugee women,”

To show your support for The Social Outfit’s mission, you can shop their beautiful sustainable designs (including their Autumn/ Winter collection Earth To Sky) via The Social Outfit website, and you can join the Wear The Change movement here.
