Our Office Does: Dr Bronner’s

As part of our dedication to championing an ethical approach to work, we’re shining a light on the workplaces making work-life more enriching for their employees.

This week, we spoke with the people behind what is arguably the world’s most iconic sustainable soap. One of the key pillars that guides the Dr Bronner’s ethos and approach is “Treat Employees Like Family”, and learning about the way they work got us feeling nostalgic for the days of office lunches that were part of TCS life before we moved online.

Bianca, a team member and marketing manager at Dr Bronner’s Melbourne office tells us;

“Dr. Bronner’s has 6 Cosmic Principles that set the foundation for and guide our business and decisions – Number 3 (after Grow! and Do Right by Customers) is Treat Employees Like Family. Bianca Dakin-Davies, who has been with Dr. Bronner’s for 4 years says that ‘family feeling’ was evident from day one. “When we are able to come together and work in the office, we stop what we’re doing at 12:30 and eat lunch together, it’s such an easy way for everyone to come together, take a break and share a laugh…and food! And it wouldn’t be Dr. Bronner’s if we didn’t spend a lot of those lunches talking environmental and social justice and how we plan to solve the issues we face as the Australian arm of Dr. Bronner’s and personally.” Activism is at the core of Dr. Bronner’s and pre-pandemic (and post-pandemic) the Dr. Bronner’s Australia team host volunteer days with staff and their families to clean up local beaches and waterways with Sea Shepherd, make sandwiches for Eat Up and deliver soap supplies to organisations like FoodBank and St Kilda Mums.

“Rainbows and bubbles are part of the everyday at Dr Bronner’s Australia office, with splashes of colour all through our workspace – from bikes that blow bubbles, multi coloured umbrellas, through to the thousands of bars and bottles of liquid soap stacked high on shelves within the warehouse.  Staff are quick to get in on the rainbow action at activations with our famous Bubble Bike, handing out samples of our iconic soaps at events.”
