Active Apostle

Bringing new meaning to the term “look good and feel good”, Active Apostle makes stylish, functional sportswear from recycled ocean plastic: win, win, win.

Please give us your elevator pitch

ACTIVE APOSTLE is an Australian owned sustainable activewear brand. Our fabric is made from recycled fishing nets and other nylon waste which are then cut and sewn in an ethical factory in Bali. We’re more than just a clothing brand that makes well fitted and comfortable sweats for men and women though. We are a movement to inspire living a more active and sustainable life. Proceeds from all sales go toward the fight against human trafficking through our partnership with Dark Bali.

What problem is your business solving?

The business is giving consumers a viable alternative to the fast fashion activewear brands on the market that use toxic materials and exploitative labour practices.

Tell us three unique things about your business

  1. Garments are made from recycled materials – fishing nets, carpet fibres, plastic bottles etc.

  2. Garments are made in an ethical factory where workers are paid a living wage and given other employee benefits such as health care.

  3. Proceeds from all sales go toward the fight against human trafficking through our partnership with Dark Bali.

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

Formerly from a hectic corporate background, I became increasingly unfulfilled with the meaningless pursuit of more wealth and material things at the expense of my health and that of the planet. I realised that consuming excessively had an impact and after seeing the atrocities that take place in the supply chain of various industries, especially fashion, I decided to create a clothing brand that used sustainable materials and paid workers fairly. As an entrepreneur, my main focus is to demonstrate that it’s possible to build a thriving business that is ethical at all levels.
