Please give us your elevator pitch:

We connect Australians to ethical brands that have been shaping a better future with sustainable products all over the world.

Our mission is to transform everyday fashion accessories and homeware into tools for positive social and environmental impact.

What problem is your business solving?

Akili is all about creating connections among like-minded people living in different parts of the world. We are shaping a better world one product at a time.

We offer ethical products combining Australian functionality with the craftsmanship and the colourful vibrancy of Africa and South America. The collision of these very distinct worlds gives birth to authentic, sustainable handmade shoes, bags, jewellery, hats, scarves and homeware.

All our products are cruelty-free, handmade with recycled or natural materials and have empowered female artisans in multiple developing communities around the world before they reach the hands of Australian consumers.

Tell us three unique things about your business:

  1. We empower female-led artisan enterprises in developing communities.
  2. The products we sell are sustainable and ethically handmade
  3. All brands we work with use recycled or natural raw materials

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

My background is in marketing and communications. I have worked for established companies, startups and non-governmental organisations in Brazil, UK, India, Tanzania and Australia. During my time in Tanzania, I got to know extremely resourceful female entrepreneurs. Inspiring women daring to challenge difficult circumstances to reach global markets. Upon my return to Brisbane, I’ve decided to connect them to the Australian market and that is how Akili was born.

Akili would not have been possible without the support of my co-founder and childhood friend Vlad. He is a technical and creative problem-solver by nature. He is responsible for developing our technical and operational arms from the ground up.
