Citizen of the Planet is an ethical apparel brand working towards circularity.
We believe that we are all citizens first and foremost, before we are consumers. When we live our lives as engaged and responsible citizens’ we make very different choices, we vote with our dollar differently and we make a more positive impact on people and the planet overall.
What problem is your business solving?
Providing encouragement and support to people wanting to act more like citizens and less like consumers in their purchasing habits.
An ethical choice to every day apparel for people wanting to improve their impact in small but extremely meaningful ways for people and the planet.
Tell us three unique things about your business:
We are dedicated to building a truly circular fashion brand and showing citizens and brands how to transition from our linear “take, make, waste” model
Initiatives include pre-loved, take back and give back programs as a ‘must have’ not a nice to have. We do not want this to stay as a unique selling point but be a shining example of what every brand should be offering as a base minimum
Our priority is not to sell more and more but to offer better quality items, made responsibly, that takes responsibility for the true cost of an item.
What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?
How to be a Better Citizen of the Planet workshop
Citizen of the Planet Apparel & Education materials
We will be collecting all you pre loved clothing, donated to be repurposed, re-used (does not need to be COTP items)
Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?
Studied Economic (Social Science) followed by a Diploma at FBI Fashion College
Worked with designers and ran fashion shows showcasing emerging designers
Built technology for ecommerce and logistics companies to support the rise of ecommerce and traditional retail
Frustrated seeing unsustainable consumption habits together with poor operational processes that did not account or look after the environment, their people and supply chain.
What inspired me to start Citizen of the Planet was the thought “What if we acted like Citizens’ of the Planet first and foremost, before we stepped in to our role as consumers (which is how we see the world most of the time. What do I need? What do I want? What am I missing?). How would that change our decisions and therefore our daily impact, both as individuals and businesses?”
