Lola Mott

Rustic Threads de Lola is a collection of bespoke macramé tapestries, wall-hangings and hand-loomed weavings crafted from all-natural fibres. The eponymous label was founded by creative soul, Lola Mottram (also known professionally as, simply, Lola Mott), who calls Sydney’s beachside suburb of Freshwater home.

Originally hailing from Argentina, it was in her home country that Lola first honed her craft. She is consistently influenced by ancient art forms that have existed for centuries, drawing upon them and adding her own contemporary flare to each of her creations. Macramé is a practice that dates back to the 13th century, with weaving existing since even before that time. Lola expertly offers her customers the chance to dress their walls with art that is reflective of these traditional and ancient techniques.

Each piece that Lola handcrafts is uniquely beautiful, adding to the authenticity and charm of her practice. Lola offers bespoke and custom-made pieces and offers customers the chance to adorn their homes with a piece specific to the palette and mood of their space. She even makes tiny little weavings for bunting, decoration and mementos (perfect for Christmas trees or gifts).

Please give us your elevator pitch:

I believe in the power of handmade because ultimately, when you create something by hand, you leave part of yourself in it. It gives individuals a voice they might not otherwise have and has great benefits in terms of mindfulness. I pride myself in making every weaving unique. I also create bespoke pieces designed to order.

What problem is your business solving?

Tell us three unique things about your business:

Handmade with heart and soul in my Sydney home. All fibres I use are natural. Quality over quantity.

What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?

Attendees will be able to see my biggest weaving yet, custom made for the event!

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

I come from a family of artists and creatives, from my mother land Argentina. My mother is definitely the person that has inspired me to start this little venture. Just by looking at her I learnt to sew and knit at a very young age and I have now found my true creative love in weaving.
