Studium Essentials

Studium Essentials

noun – Latin

  1. eagerness, enthusiasm, zeal, spirit
  2. devotion, pursuit, study

Studium Essentials is a beauty brand devoted to holistic plant-based wisdom, herbal medicine, self-care, sustainability and above all else, effective skincare. The brand was founded by a young student of naturopathy, Gabriella Abell, so it makes sense that each of her lovely formulations is backed by well-researched, naturopathic teachings.

It was a personal journey that lead Gabriella to launch her brand. After suffering from acne and uneven skin tone for many years, she was determined and devoted to researching what would heal her skin. And, it was after friends and family began to notice the change in her complexion that Studium was born.

Her intention for the brand was for it to be accessible and inclusive, aesthetically pleasing and of course, effective. In Gabriella’s words, her products “meet you where your skin is”, whatever stage that may be. The ageing and young alike can safely use her potions and blends because each of the ingredients are kept as close as possible to their botanical source. Plus, Gabriella touts the importance of skincare as a ritual, a way to carve out necessary time for yourself to reconnect.

Sustainability is something else that Studium is devoted to. Not only are the ingredients from sustainable sources, but the packaging they come in are also made from reusable materials like recyclable glass and delivered in unbleached cardboard postage boxes. Gabriella even has the desire to make the entire range refillable by the end of 2020.

Please give us your elevator pitch:

Studium Essentials is a refined range of herbal skincare products. Each has been formulated with a naturopath with our largest organ in mind – our skin. Studium is vegan, multi-use, research based, nutrient dense and suitable for all ages and stages of life. Our products are made by hand to capture the magic of plants and ensure their long-term usability and sustainability.

What problem is your business solving?

  • Eliminating excess plastic waste and packaging by using glass and tin packaging.
  • Debunking the myth that skincare has to contain rare, sought after, ‘luxury’ ingredients in order to be effective. We use high quality, organic plant ingredients that are abundant in nature.
  • We are inclusive. Our products meet you where your skin is at; regardless of age, gender or ethnicity.
  • We believe in skincare as ritual. Our products help you come back to yourself by using skincare as a tool to slow down and reconnect in this increasingly busy, fast paced world.

Tell us three unique things about your business:

  • Studium honours the process of making. Each product is made by hand to ensure quality, freshness and to reduce excess waste by meeting customer demand on a real time basis.
  • Studium is a singular, self-funded, woman-owned business.
  • Studium is planning to be 100% refillable by 2020, and further reducing the amount of waste in the beauty industry.

What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?

We will be offering interactive experiences for attendees. They can smell, touch, explore and have a go at identifying the raw ingredients in our products. Guests will get an inside look on how my herbal extracts and infused oils are made. It is a joy to follow the process of where they start and how they end up in my products!

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

Studium is run by (me) Gabriella Abell, and I am 24 years old. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Naturopathy, so I have a huge amount of love and respect for plant medicine and all things holistic health. The inspiration came from a personal need. I have a history of acne and uneven skin tone, so it pushed me to start researching what would work best for my problematic skin. I created and experimented for years and then friends, family and beyond began to show interest. So, Studium was born. I wanted to create a line that made plant medicine accessible to all, products that capture a plant’s vitality whilst also being aesthetically pleasing and, above all, effective.
