Wandering Sol

Wandering Sol create functional and beautiful wares that incorporate seamlessly into daily life to support sustainable living. Created by two good friends, the brand was born from a desire to fill a gap in the market for a functional (yet aesthetically pleasing) carrier basket to take to the shops, markets, beach, park and everywhere in between.

Founders, Zoe and Narelle, were confronted with ‘granny shopper’ carrier baskets that were made from unappealing plastics with equally unappealing designs. So, in true eco-warrior style, they set out to create something that was functional but also beautiful and led by impeccable design.

And so, Wandering Sol’s hero product, The Wanderer Trolley was born. It is the shopping cart to end all others and sits at the height of functionality and beauty. The ethos behind Wandering Sol is to adventure lightly, and their hero product alone helps customers to do so. With the addition of their range of baskets, it eliminates the need for single-use plastic bags, and in some cases, the need for a car to get groceries to and from the home.

Each of the products in their range are designed in Avalon, on Sydney’s northern beaches. Described by the founders as a creative, beachside town, it definitely offers the fresh and invigorating lifestyle that inspires much of the brand’s aesthetic. Circular economic design lies at the core of the brand’s business model and the pair of friends scrupulously consider the life cycle of every product they create. Though, once their products become part of your daily routine you won’t ever want to be without them.

Please give us your elevator pitch:

Wandering Sol is a conscious, innovative, values-based lifestyle brand that supports natural and sustainable living. We create functional yet beautiful wares to help your soul adventure lightly.

What problem is your business solving?

Do you ever struggle to carry ALL THE THINGS, like your weekly market shop, or your beach and picnic gear? Well, what we do is lighten the load by providing a stylish, functional way to carry your goods. In fact, our sustainable cart folds down in one go, packing flat to help you adventure lightly.

Tell us three unique things about your business:

We are the only sustainable shopping trolley that has a total weight under 5kg, yet has a maximum carrying capacity of up to 50kg. Plus, it folds flat when not in use! All our wares are designed by us in the leafy suburb of Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We both feature in our imagery as well, because, you know, we’re a start-up keeping it real! The SOL in Wandering Sol refers not only to the fact that it is a soulful, values-aligned business, but also a nod to Narelle’s son, Solomon (or Sol for short)!

What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?

Wandering Sol is a new brand to market, and TCS will be the first event we will be exhibiting our hero product – The Wanderer Trolley. We are very excited to meet you all.

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

Wandering Sol emerged out of the joint desire of two friends to create functional, desirable and ethical products that supported their family’s commitment to sustainable living.

With numerous businesses under their belt, founders Zoe and Narelle have an innate understanding of the need to create a soulful, values-aligned business. The business was born out of frustration with the lack of ‘granny shopper’ baskets on the market. They were either ugly and made of plastic, or dysfunctional with limited carrying capacity and didn’t fold flat.

No longer able to rely on the pram to help carry the market shop, and with plastic bags banned from the supermarkets, the founders saw a gap in the market to create a truly sustainable, design-led functional cart. Narelle’s finance and logistics background aligns perfectly with Zoe’s marketing and health background, and all of the core products from Wandering Sol have been lovingly designed in Avalon in NSW.
