Cape Byron Distillery

Cape Byron Distillery

Please give us your elevator pitch:

Cape Byron Distillery is perched in the heart of the Brook Family’s 96 acre Farm (Brookfarm) in the hinterland of Byron Bay. From the top of the farm, you can see the first light pass over the lighthouse. The distillery itself rests amongst the macadamia orchard & rainforest that the Brook’s have regenerated. The distillery was purpose-built on one of the only bare plots of land remaining. Inside you will find our custom-made copper pot still (named George), next to our cellar door bar made from locally sourced Norfolk pine and recycled materials.

What problem is your business solving?

We are using our appreciation and knowledge of our rich biodiversity in our local environment to inspire and flavour our products that can be used as a platform to raise awareness and support for reforestation projects, and bring life back to areas through reforestation, just like the transformation of our property.

Tell us three unique things about your business:

1. Our products champion native ingredients and wherever possible we source them from local farmers in our community. We are investing back into native produce farmers and reforestation projects.

2. We are constantly looking at ways to improve on our sustainability and lower our environmental impact. Within our small team of just over 20 staff, we have a Sustainability Officer, who is constantly looking at ways we can improve.

3. What we know and what we continue to learn, we are sharing. Each week we welcome dozens of people, from the public and various industries, to tour our property and facility to learn about our story, our environment, and the wonderful array of flora and fauna we share it with.

What can attendees expect to see from you at TCS?

We will be sharing our story and our spirit with everyone. Come and taste our three products; Byron Dry Gin, Byron Slow Gin and Macadamia & Wattleseed Liqueur.

Can you tell us a little about your background and where the inspiration came from for your business?

The thriving ecosystem & lush subtropical rainforest that Cape Byron Distillery rest amongst is a direct result of the Brook family’s passion for rainforest regeneration. 30 years ago Pam & Martin Brook purchased a run-down dairy farm in the hinterland of Byron Bay. Since then they have regenerated and replanted over 35,000 subtropical rainforest trees, creating an oasis for native animals and birds.

It is this passion for regeneration that is at the core of what we do.
